Dealing With Hangovers

What is a Hangover?

A hangover describes the sum of unpleasant physiological effects following heavy consumption of alcoholic beverages. The most common reported characteristics of a hangover are headache, nausea, lethargy, sensitivity to light and noise, and thirst.

A hangover is something that just about all of us have experienced at some point in time. After spending a night out drinking, you may wake up in the morning with your head feeling heavy and your stomach in knots. At that moment, you probably decided that you would quit drinking, to prevent this awful feeling from happening again. No matter how hard you may have tried though, chances are that it happened again.

Even though we all know that alcohol can lead to hangovers, the cause of a hangover is something we don’t know. Alcohol does have some positive effects on the body, although it can also lead to negative effects such as hangovers. Some doctors will actually recommend it, while others will tell you never to drink it. Even though drinking is good, moderation is the key. The easiest way to avoid hangovers is to drink in moderation - and never get drunk.

A Selection of Standard Banner Sizes with Wood Effect Backgrounds

Macro - Banners

Macro Photo of Rotten LogThe background to these banners have been generated from a macro photo of an exposed sliver of rotting wood. Some of the banners have been modified using PaintShop Pro to give added colour and pattern mixes. The 160x600 banner uses 16 colours and renders a surprisingly good banner background for a multitude of banner ad campaigns.

Web banners function the same way as traditional advertisements are intended to function: notifying consumers of the product or service and presenting reasons why the consumer should choose the product in question, although web banners differ in that the results for advertisement campaigns may be monitored real-time and may be targeted to the viewer's interests.

Many people regard these banner ads as highly annoying because they distract from a web page's actual content or waste bandwidth. Of course, the purpose of the banner ad is to attract attention and generate clicks. Annoying designs combined with rapid animation frames, will probably not provide any click revenue for the advertiser or for the content provider.

Making a Difference

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Macro Photography and Banner Building

Thumbnail of Pink RoseIn close-up or tabletop Photography, digital cameras have a huge advantage over traditional film cameras because you can review your results and make adjustments as you shoot. If a photo doesn’t turn out as you’d hoped, just delete it and try something new. Digital images also let you import them directly into a graphic editing program for editing or reprocessing. I have used a series of photos taken in extreme close-up and full camera zoom of vivid coloured flowers to construct some unique banner backgrounds for use in web pages or as unusual icons and buttons.

Years and years ago, well 1964 to be precise, I was nominated to call on the "New Yanks" a wealthy couple from America; they had just moved into a huge house in our village (Broadway, Cotswolds, UK) they were supposed to be artists.

I had to offer them a chance to have a "Bob-a-Job".
Huh, nowadays that sort of offer has totally different connotations!
