British Politicians NOT Responsible for Fat Cats and Pets

Written by Jack

THE GREAT BIG BRITISH FAT CATS AND GREEDY DOGS SCANDAL

Fat British Dog Health IssuesFor once, it seems individuals in parliament cannot be blamed for the way British pet owners overfeed their animals to bursting point. "Pet obesity in the UK, you could say, is at epidemic proportions. Nearly 50% of dogs and cats in this country are overweight, and 15% of these are clinically obese." Andrew Wilson, Orchard Veterinary Centre.

Heart complaints, diabetes and arthritis are just some of the health problems associated with pets carrying excess weight. Lack of exercise and poor diet can also result in a shortened life-span for man's favourite friends. Despite this, there are some owners who don't seem to be taking obesity in their animals seriously. Animals are piling on the pounds in all the wrong places. Some websites glorify fat pets, and make a virtue out of their cuddliness and cuteness. To make things worse, we're effectively killing our pets with kindness.

The Pet Health Council recommends the following action:

1. check the ideal weight for your pet with your vet;
2. take action if your pet is heavier than its ideal weight by 15%.
3. check for a sagging stomach and bulging sides;
4. if you can't feel your pet's ribs, this may be a sign that they're overweight;
5. breathlessness and reluctance to take exercise are good indicators of an overweight pet.

OBESITY IN HOUSES OF PARLIEMENT?

READ THE RIPPED HEADLINE FROM THE TEA MUSK TIMES

Heavyweight politicians, many of whom may have visited the "trough" of their free meal allowances a little to often, have refused to take the new "FAT PET" test. The general feeling among MPs is that; "A few tasty treats never did anyone any harm"!

"Throw me a BONE sometime", seems to be the reply from the Great British Public.

Gormless Gordon says; "I eats, I drinks, I gets fat and I falls over; I'm awright JACK".

You may think your own pet is treated extremely well, and even pampered, but some pet owners take things to extremes. Read about how some of the most privileged pets live their lives.

The Most Privileged Pets

While most people are content treating their pets to the occasional plate of "people food" on special occasions, or perhaps going so far as to give Fido his own Christmas stocking full of doggie treats, some pets are pampered more than many people pamper their children. Celebrities parade through the tabloid headlines, carrying their latest spoiled pet in their arms; upscale pet boutiques sell clothing, designer perfumes and even fancy shoes for dogs and cats; favoured pets enjoy private air conditioning systems in their dog houses; tiny teacup dogs sport collars costing more than many new cars!

If there were a contest for the most pampered pets in the world, the competition would be fierce. Paris Hilton's famously pampered pet dog would surely be in the running, especially now that "mommy" has her own branded line of top-shelf designer pet apparel. But non-celebs can keep their "babies" in the running too, whether their tastes are as lavish as Paris' or they prefer the classic look of a pet trench coat from Burberry, perhaps paired with an elegant Gucci collar. And what pampered pet ensemble is complete without a proper manicure, offered by many pet grooming salons (complete with your choice of coloured polish)?

Of course, the most pampered pets need more in their lavish lives than just fancy apparel. Outdoor pet houses are available with all manner of amenities, from climate control systems and upholstered interior furnishings, to exterior styling to rival the loveliest estate homes. Indoor pets can lounge on the finest goose-down feather beds, and enjoy hand-cooked meals on the finest serving silver. Pet entertainment systems are even available, for the feline left to watch the house alone, allowing them to watch video of fish and birds on demand (thanks to their own remote control).

But the most pampered pets aren't those who are left at home when their owners go out, no matter how lavish their surroundings. Surely, the most pampered pets are deserving of their own holiday accommodations at four-star pet hotels, available to accommodate travelling pets all over the world, from the UK to Japan. Rather than hiring a common dog sitter, your pampered pet can enjoy their own private hotel room, complete with plush furniture, on site veterinarians, "personal trainers" (aka: dog walkers) and even room service meals! Such accommodations are available to pampered pets around the world, from the UK to Japan.

The Number of Times Fleas: Unwelcome Guests For Your Pets A Liberated Article Has Been Read Is: 63

The Author of This Liberated Article Is: Nicholas Hunt

ARTICLE SUMMARY: Pets can be great companions, but unfortunately they sometimes bring their own less welcome guests. Find out how to deal with a case of animal fleas in your pet and home.

Fleas: Unwelcome Guests For Your Pets

Our pets can bring many great things into our lives: fun, loyalty, affection, companionship and much more. Unfortunately, one other thing they can bring in with them is the less pleasant companion of fleas. No matter how well you care for your pet and how clean you keep it, a chance encounter with another infested animal can lead to your own animal becoming host to some very unwelcome visitors.

Once established on your pet, then the fleas will quickly begin the process of reproducing, and laying eggs that might not necessarily stay within the fur of your pet. In today's warm houses, flea eggs can quite happily develop and hatch within the fibres of our carpets and upholstery, and so it's easy to see how a simple infestation of your pet can lead to extremely undesirable consequences for the cleanliness of your home.

There's no need to worry though about animal fleas jumping onto humans and infesting them, as the species involved are quite different. While, say, a cat flea may jump onto a human, attracted by the heat, it will soon leave when it realises that it hasn't met with its favoured feline host.

So how can you tell if your pet has fleas? Signs of itching such as excessive scratching and nibbling are an obvious indicator, and if you encounter these then it's probably time to investigate further. Special flea combs are available which you can use to check the fur of your pet for the fleas themselves, as well as the telltale waste deposits that they leave behind.

Any fleas that the comb uncover need to be dealt with decisively. Unfortunately for squeamish pet owners, fleas need to be dispatched quickly or they'll jump to their escape, only to relocate themselves to your pet once again. Easy methods include squeezing in a tissue or throwing onto an open fire - fleas are hardy creatures, so don't be tentative.

Once you've established that you have an infestation problem, you need to tackle the situation from all directions. Not only should you treat your pets with the sprays or powders available from your vet surgeon, you need to treat your carpets and upholstery to kill any eggs that have been deposited there. Sprays for this purpose are readily available, and safe to use, although it's always wise to keep your pets and children out of rooms that are being treated in this way.

Even if you've never had cause to treat a flea infestation, prevention is better than cure. For cats, flea collars are widely available which will discourage flea infestation, although they won't prevent it completely if your pet regularly comes into contact with a heavily infested neighbour or stray. Drops, sprays, and even pills are also readily obtained either from your vet or pet store, and most products are generally effective. Even so, some fleas can get past all preventative measures, so you still need to keep an eye open and take action if necessary.

Finally, if reading this article has left you scratching, then don't worry. You probably haven't got a flea problem - it's usually just a natural reaction to reading about them!
