Tottenham v Middlesbrough Midweek Tasty Pickings in London

Written by Jack
Wednesday, 04 March 2009

Wednesday night football can be a graveyard for football Lay bets on the favourite. However, the match between Spurs and Middlesbrough looks like it might be a very close match and with Spurs Lay at 1.9 it's just to tempting.

I intend to use the same system as last night. Hold the Lay until halftime if it stays at 0-0 and then trade out with a Back bet on Spurs or if Middlebrough score first, I'll close the bet immediately for a green probably favouring the draw. Of course, if Spurs score or go 2-0 up... then my bet goes tits-up. Liability is low and profits will probably be modest.

That's my plan and here's my initial screen:

The rest of the matches look to close to call with the exception of Newcastle and Man United. I think I'll wait until they go in-play before making any further bets.

Awe CRAP!

The live Skysports game is Blackburn v Everton, guess I'll have to keep track of the Spurs v Middlesbrough on 5 Live.

Just before the kickoff the Lay odds for a Spurs have come in slightly to 1.75 so my position is the same "no trade possible at this time". My guess is a 1-1 draw at halftime and then maybe a late goal for one of the teams in the second half. Who knows and who cares, providing I can trade green at some stage for a modest profit.

1 goal lead for Spurs and my tits-are-up : 2 goal lead for Spurs my belly & tits are up... and the Lay is dead in the water.

Should be a good match.

Now, I need to check out Man U and the Toons. No bets on this match just yet. Huh, Toons went 1-0 up after 8 minutes and Man U's odds hardly shifted. I think this is still to volatile to bet.

Decided to Lay Blackburn and hope for an early Everton goal:

Can't find live commentary of Spurs anywhere? Guess I'll have to rely on Betfair updating their odds page with the score. Bugger, fart and shag the cat!

Well, talk about tempting fate:

2 goal lead for Spurs my belly & tits are up... and the Lay is dead in the water.

Middlesbrough might recover and score 2 and then pigs might fly. Nope, Spurs have gone 3-0 up and this bet is dead.

Looks like Everton have to recover my fortune and they're NOT playing very well right now.

The funny thing is; if I'd followed Toons & Man U, I'd be sat on a big fat green screen right now!

Bailed out at Blackburn

Just about my only success from yet another dismal Wednesday night's football. Just about wiped all my profits from the last two weeks. NO system works ALL the time... maybe I should do a re-think?

Here's my final screen:

Second worst night at the Betfair office.

This experiment is closed.
