Surprising News Story - Journalists Peddle Myths

Written by Jack

Jonathan Brown, a scribbler from the British Independent Newspaper has published an amusing article:

http://news.independent.co.uk/media/article3084311.ece

WMD claims revive talk of feud at 'The Guardian'

[quote]

Veteran investigative journalist Nick Davies's forthcoming book, Flat Earth News, is billed as an insider's view on a "profession corrupted to the core" where journalists are content to peddle myths "from the millennium bug to the WMD in Iraq" – dressed up as genuine stories.

[end quote]

Basically, Jonathan takes a dig at the rival newspapers The Observer and its sister title The Guardian.

I stopped buying the Independent about a year ago after they changed the print layout and stopped the daily supplement. This was done in an attempt to stop people sharing one paper over breakfast, in transit or over lunch.

The London Times is a much better paper for sharing, it also has superior crosswords and three seduko puzzles. The Times news content is about the same and possibly, from an "outsider's view" it's also "just as corrupted to the core as The Independent, The Guardian and The Observer".

Probably the best source of daily news is Yahoo or Google news feeds, as I've often found the news that appears online will be reprinted the following day in all of the above papers. In many cases, the article content is hardly/rarely changed.

Regarding "peddling myths". Well, the papers mentioned above are guilty, because they ALL continue to peddle the same old crap day after day.

"Fat Five Year Olds" - a future drain on NHS resources. Health Secretary to TAKE ACTION!

Every Monday another scare story, end of the world, until Friday.

Hot MYTH News for Next Monday:

Read it here first.

Three Binge Drinking Octogenarians Mug Jack with a Six Handled Customised Zimmer Frame (imported from Russia)

Police failed to apprehend three drunken eighty years olds after they mugged ex Home Secretary "Big Jack" while he was travelling in the fast lane of the M25, with his brain in neutral/natural. A police spokesperson stated that: "Due to NHS cuts for pain relief of the elderly, we were unable to follow a trail of spilt pills and the "perps" escaped by accelerating their "souped-up Zimmer" away from high speed patrol cars and armed response officers". When asked for comments, Spin Doctors for the current two main British political parties were united. "Binge mugging, drinking and drug taking by elderly people will NOT be tolerated. We owe it to our fat five year olds (see last week's scare article or our adverts on page 3 - 5 - 18 etc) to have a society where the NHS costs NOTHING and ALL people can be free from octogenarian oppression!"

Tuesday's MYTH Headline

The country can rest easy. The rogue octogenarians have been apprehended after the were found by accident, asleep on a public bus service, apparently taking full advantage of their free bus pass allowance. Resisting arrest will be added to the charge list, as the most frail "perp" twitched while being shackled. The other two were shot in the head as a precaution against drunken binge drinking overweight octogenarian fundamentalist suicide bombers.

The "Six Handled Customised Zimmer Frame" is currently being evaluated by the military.

Wednesday's MYTH Headline

Rogue Octogenarians May Have Nuclear Capability

MI6 suspect at least one imported Zimmer may have been adapted to carry and concel a nuclear device. a government defence expert commented, "A Zimmer Frame may not be an ideal delivery and transportation system for a nuclear device.

All people using the London Underground are being asked to report ANY sightings of "old people" to their nearest Armed Response Officer for immediate execution/extermination.

Thursday's Myth Headline

Not all Octogenarians are Rebels - a lot of them reside in Buck House, House of Lords and Parliament.

Emergence law is passed. Only "common" octogenarians can be culled. Our short term response is to send old (working class) people to NHS hospitals. The NHS usually finish them off fairly quickly.

Friday's MYTH Headline (from The Independent)

It was all a mistake, we didn't REALLY mean it. Remember when we made the "pot" mistake? Well, this is the same, shame really, but advertising and circulation went up.

Oh, the "Six Handled Customised Zimmer Frame" is in full production and will probably become the next weapon of mass destruction.

Huh, I quite like the idea of a "Nuclear Zimmer Frame"... let's hope we all shuffle rather than rush to destruction.
